Celestial Insights    May 2021

Happy May, friends, and happy birthday month to Taurus and early Gemini folks! Below are your May 2021 Celestial Insights to navigate this month with ease and grace…

To those who celebrate: Happy Floralia & Beltane! We’re in the midst of the Floralia celebration, which is like Roman May Day, honoring Flora, the goddess of plants and flowers. This can symbolize bright, fresh blooms and regeneration in our lives as the astrological new year awakens in Aries season. Set up a Floralia altar with flowers, plants, honey, green, yellow, pink, and purple stones and candles. Similar in celebration, on May 2 we have the Pagan sabbat, Beltane (or May Day) in the northern hemisphere (Samhain in the southern hemisphere). Beltane is all about fertility, sex, passion, and fire energy ignited by the bright sun and blooming beautiful flora. Beltane is a perfect time to perform fertility rituals, both literal or symbolic creative fertility, adorning your altar with colors of spring, lighting white, orange, red candles for spirit and fire energy, and fruits, nuts, and seeds or acorns. Pan and The Greenman are also honored along with Gaia on Beltane.

One of the biggest celestial events we have this month is the worldwide full moon eclipse in Sagittarius on May 26. As always, eclipse season tends to remove some kind of energy, situation, or person from our lives. Eclipses may also create an energetic shift within us, removing what we have outgrown or no longer serves us for our highest good.

Another big shift is the yearly ingress of Jupiter (the planet of luck and expansion) from Aquarius (an air sign all about the collective, social groups, and technology) into Pisces (a water sign, connected to inward emotional and creative expression encompassed by dreamy, mystical energy). Jupiter transits last about one year, so this is a major energetic shift for all of us. Check your natal chart to see what house Pisces rules for you—this is where extra luck, intuition, and expansion will occur in your world!

Later in the month, Mercury stations retrograde on the 29th, so just be sure to back up your work on a hard drive, have important convos, and sign important contracts a few days or more before this energy shift. Fun fact—if you were born while Mercury was in Rx, this aspect may not affect you in the same clunky ways it affects others! In any case, Mercury Rx is always a healthy reminder to stay organized and be prepared for inevitable bumps in the road. It’s also a gentle reminder to pause from Mercurial electricity, slow down, and revisit and review important matters and relationships.

May’s lunations are MAJOR this month with a fertile New Moon in Taurus and aforementioned Super Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius, so be sure to check out the lunar deep dives below, highlighting themes and symbols, crystals/herbs/tarot card recommendations to adorn your altar, mantra suggestions, and some moon medicine.

                          MAY 2021 LUNATIONS

New Moon in Taurus: Seeding Powerful Intentions in The Womb of Venus
                          Tuesday, May 11th, 2021 @ 21 degrees of Taurus
                          11:59 am PST // 2:59 pm EST

THEMES & SYMBOLS: Luxury, beauty, money, fertility, roses, poppies, swan, bull, earth energy, coins, pink, red, orange, blue, green

The peak of new moons are auspicious times for going within and doing shadow work while also planting seeds of intention for what we want to see grow. The dark moon is associated with Hekate, the goddess of the crossroads who guides us with her lantern in the blackest of night to our next destination on our soul journey. From this space, we can tap into what our hearts most need and desire, and plant our seeds we wish to see manifest in the nutrient-rich black soil of the new moon.

This particular new moon is in the grounded, luxurious sign of Taurus, ruled by Venus, and is very ripe for manifestation. Venus rules money and beauty, among other things, so doing money magick and glamour magick will get an extra oomph around this lovely lunation. If you want to do ritual around wealth and abundance, we have a kit curated with everything you need, including ethically-sourced sage for cleansing and purification.

                          RITUAL + ALTAR INSPIRATIONS

                          NEW MOON PETITION

Write your intentions as specifically as possibly on a small piece of paper, in the present tense, as if they are already happening. Fold it 3 times toward you, symbolizing bringing energy to you, and place on your altar under one of your crystals. You may also place your petition under your earth element candle or chime candle holder before you light your candle.

                          SUGGESTED MANTRA

“I easily attract and manifest (financial/spiritual/emotional/creative) abundance for my highest good. I am a magnet for beauty, love, and luxury. I am grounded but vibrating high into the cosmos. With gratitude, I call in all the blessings I am ready for. So it is!”

                          NEW MOON MEDICINE

Taurus rules our neck, vocal cords, throat, and thyroid gland. Balance and tone your throat chakra with the seed mantra HAM, blue stones placed or worn around your neck, singing, and breathwork.

QUICK TIP: Use the Manifestation and Divination Crystal Kit for all of your new moon altars! Cleanse the stones after each ritual. If you are calling in goddess energy for motherhood for this Taurus new moon, check out our Fertility Ritual Kit. We suggest performing a fertility ritual on the Friday (Venus Day) after the new moon as it starts to wax (increase).

Super Full Moon in Sagittarius: Rising from the Ashes of Truth
                          May 26th @ 5 degrees of Sagittarius
                          4:13 am PST // 7:13 am EST

THEMES & SYMBOLS: The Archer, Jupiter, fire, releases, karmic cycles ending, freedom, truth, spirituality, cat spirit, owl spirit, red, orange, black

Full moons are helpful lunations for releases and forgiveness. Also, since the full moon is the Mother phase of the Maiden-Mother-Crone, it serves as a big, bright beacon in the sky lighting up where in our lives we can give gratitude for abundance and take pride in our accomplishments.

This full moon is particularly powerful for releases as it is also a total lunar eclipse. Friends, this one may be heavy, but know that whatever/whoever leaves that is out of your control is ready to go… Think about what seeds you planted on the new moon—this may be the house cleaning needed to bring those intentions into fruition. Sagittarius energy loves truth, so truths may be revealed or you may be called to accept some sort of truth. If the ball is in your court to make major changes, trust your intuition and the wisdom of fire in your heart to sever the ties that hold you down or are already unraveling and have taken up too much space for too long. Thank them, and let them go.

                          RITUAL + ALTAR INSPIRATIONS

                          FULL MOON PETITION

In Sagittarius, a fire sign, you can write out your full moon releases on a small piece of paper and burn them away with fire, which transmutes energy like a phoenix rising from the ashes. Always be fire safe! Using a traditional ritual tool, like a cauldroncontains the flame so your paper burns completely and safely, then seals the energy of the ashes beneath the lid once burned. You can then sprinkle some salt over the ashes and mix together in your cauldron to completely purify and clear the energy around your releases.

                          SUGGESTED MANTRA

“I release the emotional, mental, and spiritual weight that keeps me in a low vibration. I release all that does not serve my highest good with gratitude for the lessons learned. I accept what I cannot change. I am ascending. I am free. I am whole.”

                          FULL MOON MEDICINE

Sagittarius rules our liver, hips, thighs, and sacrum. Think about doing gentle hip-opening yoga, thigh massage, detox tea, and sacral chakra work, chanting the seed mantra VAM and placing orange stones around your stomach below your belly button. Meditate on the power of fire as a guiding light and powerful transmuter during your ritual. Get more detailed inspiration on how to work with the element of fire here!

QUICK TIP: Our Energy Cleansing Kit has all the essentials needed to work with this major full moon eclipse’s cleansing and releases.

Wishing you all a bountiful New Moon and a deeply-purifying Full Moon this May!

Kitchen Witch" is a term used for cunning or witchy folx whose spiritual practice is rooted within food, mealtimes, and the home. Kitchen Witches craft rituals, spells and/or potions utilizing edible items, found objects, and common household items. The kitchen is their altar; their home is their sacred space. In 2014, we created our Ritual Kits, Candles and Apothecary with the idea of mixing and matching common ritualistic ingredients like lavender, rose, or patchouli that would create a perfect combination for a unique spell or intention- setting ritual...
