Spellwork Sundays: Banishing with Bay Leaves, April 21st, 2019

Spellwork Sundays: Banishing with Bay Leaves, April 21st, 2019

April 17, 2019

Hey there! for this Spellwork Sunday I wanted to talk about the magick behind Bay Leaves, also known as Laurel Leaves. Bay leaves have numerous uses, and they are a most powerful tool in aiding communication to your deities, cleansing a space, breaking curses and banishing negativity. Today I want to focus on the aspect of banishing negativity, which is something we can all do at home.

April 2019 Horoscopes

April 2019 Horoscopes

March 28, 2019

The month kicks off with a fiery New Moon in Aries on April 5th. This is an excellent time to get right with yourself and set new personal goals for the year ahead. The New Moon will be making some challenging aspects to Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn, so expect some push back or power struggles from others. We’ll be feeling eager to break free, just check your ego at the door. Saturn always brings reality checks, and with Pluto in the mix, it's possible to get a slap in the face. This energy continues through April 10th, when the Sun makes an exact square to Saturn. When it comes to Saturn, he truly means well. He just wants what's best for you. So any delays are merely a sign of needing to be patient and abiding by the laws of the universe. That same day Jupiter rolls back and starts his retrograde for the next few months, asking us to...

The History of Fire & Flame in Religion, Magic(k), and Ceremony

The History of Fire & Flame in Religion, Magic(k), and Ceremony

February 26, 2019

Since fire was first domesticated about one million years ago, humans have attempted to harness its power in any way possible, often with disastrous consequences. Fire is simultaneously transformative, destructive, fearsome, beautiful, and hypnotic. It is no wonder that its awesome presence has been a central component of worship since time immemorial. Fire and candle worship are ubiquitous in world religions, both ancient and modern. In the fifth century BCE, the Athenians would hold a procession to the sanctuary of the goddess Artemis Mounichia, and offer her round cakes with a candle in the middle- which some have hypothesized is the origin

Fact Vs. Fiction: Full Moon in Virgo, February 19th, 2019

Fact Vs. Fiction: Full Moon in Virgo, February 19th, 2019

February 15, 2019

Every Full Moon is an exchange between the masculine Sun and the feminine Moon, illuminating the sky and shining a light on certain subjects. This particular illumination is at a 0 degree, suggesting this is both a new beginning (zero) and a completion. This matchup on the Virgo Pisces axis is a reflection of the balance between tending to our responsibilities while being sure we aren’t taking on more than we can manage. A major epiphany may surface that you are taking on the energy or responsibility of those around you. This may be both physically ...

Understanding Ceremony & Creating Your Own Ritual

Understanding Ceremony & Creating Your Own Ritual

February 02, 2019

There are a few things you should consider before starting your ritual. How does the ritual fulfill your intentions? How does it aid in discovering your intentions? Magic, especially modern magic, tends to be unifying rather than dualistic. The goal is to unify the higher (mind/divine) and lower (physical/experiential). Magicians do this by making things happen through uniting themselves with the universe at-large, by spell-casting (magic) and/or being mindful (mysticism). Lastly, it is crucial to record every step in a journal along with all external factors that affect you and the operation. This is one of the only ways to observe and adjust your practice as you develop.

Horoscopes: December, 2018

November 26, 2018

Let 2018 be known as the year of retrogrades! Woof, it’s over. As we reflect on the past several months of twists and turns, you may now breathe a sigh of relief. December is a month of some much more manageable and tranquil astrological transits. Take some extra time on the 5th to get some rest and recuperate. The Sun will be blending with Neptune making this a lazy day, where our immune systems are apt to take a hit. Prevent illness with lots of liquids or a warm bath. The Mercury retrograde will be winding down on the 6th of the month, you can rest easy when it comes to making any electronic purchases as gifts. I should note; when it comes to big-budget electronic items, extended warranties are still encouraged since we will be in the Mercury shadow. The same goes for any

Horoscopes: November 2018

Horoscopes: November 2018

October 29, 2018

The month kicks off with Uranus’s retrograde back into the headstrong sign of Aries on the 6th. Suddenly aspects of yourself you’ve been working on for the past two years come to a head. People are apt to be reactionary when it comes to personal needs. Tensions will rise as as the nodes of the moon move into a cardinal square  with Uranus. The new nodal placements of Capricorn (south node) and Cancer (north node) signify and new change in our lives for the next year and a half collectively. We are being asked to move into a space of healing and nurturing. Slowly we will begin to bring better attention to our home and family units.

An Introduction to Magic[k] and Alternative Belief Systems

An Introduction to Magic[k] and Alternative Belief Systems

October 22, 2018 1 Comment

Magic. We all know what it is. But when asked to define it, it can be a bit tricky to give it a good definition. So let's start with the basics. All types of magic have two parts: the belief part and the practical part. If you didn't believe magic was real, then why practice it at all? If you don't use magic for anything, why believe in it? It is worth noting up front that the magic this article talks about is also sometimes spelled "magick." This is mostly to distinguish it from the kind of magic with card tricks and rabbits being pulled out of hats. Another reason some spell it this way is because they use the "k" at the end to stand for "kteis." Kteis is a Greek word representing the passive or reproductive powers of nature. In this sense, magick is balanced against the oppressive aspects of more dogmatic religious traditions that seek to regulate individual behavior and enforce social norms.

PEOPLE PLEASING & PERSONAL POWER: New Moon in Libra, October 8, 2018

PEOPLE PLEASING & PERSONAL POWER: New Moon in Libra, October 8, 2018

October 04, 2018

Libra reminds us of the truth, beauty, and goodness inherent in our human and heavenly connection. It craves fairness and justice in its dealings though may avoid discomfort at all costs. This new moon pushes us into looking at our people-pleasing tendencies and its impact on our personal power.  The shadow side of Libra is co-dependency or focusing so much on others that we forget about our own needs or identity. Another important aspect of Libra is sometimes difficulty letting go to people or situations that may not serve us but where we still seem to crusade for fairness. Libra’s gifts are for art, fashion, and aesthetic as well as inviting in equality and diplomacy. Though there can be a tendency towards

INSPIRATION & INDEPENDENCE : Full Moon in Aries, September 24, 2018

INSPIRATION & INDEPENDENCE : Full Moon in Aries, September 24, 2018

September 21, 2018

Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, keeps things moving and beckons us into taking action. Invite the Aries full moon by honoring your independence and inspiration through passion projects or setting new goals. Lead with your will and this moon may serve you well. And while all of this may sound great at first, the shadow side can be impatience, easily annoyed, or compulsive (says the natal Aries Moon). Watch out for a bit of emotional avoidance, Aries doesn’t have time to feel things. This in-charge sign activates our inner warrior and passion so be prepared for a bit of agitation or competition even if you...

Mabon: Mysteries & Myth

Mabon: Mysteries & Myth

September 21, 2018

For thousands of years fall has been a time to connect with the mysteries of life as well as a time of gratitude for Earth’s offerings. Often called the Witches Thanksgiving, Mabon, was the second harvest festival of three each year, the first being Lammas. Traditionally during this time, Pagans and other nature-based faiths would celebrate crops and prepare for the colder months ahead. In fact, Thanksgiving in the United States, used to be celebrated near the first week of October, which made much more sense agriculturally. Then later the date was changed by Abraham Lincoln, and then Roosevelt. Obviously neither of them understood there wasn’t much left to harvest by late November.
